Augusta to Margaret River 1984


Augusta to Margaret River, day 4, Thursday 29 November 1984. I decided to have another look at Jewel Cave, not having been there for four years, so I set off up the Bussell Highway then turned left into Caves Road.

After that enjoyable tour of Jewel Cave I went back to the Bussell Highway via Bushby Road and headed for Margaret River. I had booked a different place to stay for a change, there being more to choose from now. I found a motel on the other side of the highway, off Wallcliffe Road. This was quite fancy with its furnishings and linen and the rooms, besides opening onto the outside, had a back door opening to an internal passage where each room had a little table where guests could sit to eat a meal ordered from the motel’s restaurant.

The motel was on Wallcliffe road which slightly shortened my ride to Gnarabup Beach. The Prevelly Park resort next to the beach had quite grown since my last visit so the roads were different and I had a little trouble finding the beach. I had a swim and enjoyed the clear water and the attractive setting. Then I had the climb back up to Caves Road, then the familiar roller coaster rush downhill then steep climb between the cow paddocks

I got back to the motel, showered and did my washing and changed, and checked out the motel menu for dinner. The meals were expensive and not very substantial, they included baked potatoes stuffed with this and that. In the event I just bought takeaway from one of the restaurants in town. There was far too much (after some recent experiences on rides I sometimes had a fear of not eating enough) so I saved some for breakfast the next morning. It was curry and rice and something else.

I had a pleasant evening doing nothing much.
