South Western Australia

Southwest Australia is a biodiversity hotspot that includes the Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub ecoregions of Western Australia. The region has a wet-winter, dry-summer Mediterranean climate, one of five such regions in the world. The region covers 356,717 km², consisting of a broad coastal plain 20-120 kilometers wide, transitioning to gently undulating uplands made up of weathered granite, gneiss and laterite. Desert and xeric shrublands lie to the north and east across the center of Australia, separating Southwest Australia from the other Mediterranean and humid-climate regions of the continent.

Wokalup

Wokalup is a town located in the South West region of Western Australia along the South Western Highway, between Harvey and Brunswick Junction. Wokalup’s name derives from an Aboriginal name meaning “the place of the carpet snake” (wokul). Such snakes were often found in farm sheds in the area prior to the commencement of irrigation but tiger snakes became more common subsequently.

Cape Naturaliste

Cape Naturaliste is a headland in the south western region of Western Australia at the western edge of the Geographe Bay. It is the northernmost point of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge which was named after the cape. Also the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park and the Cape to Cape hiking track were named after this location.

Abba River

The Abba River is a river in the South West of Western Australia. The headwaters of the river rise in the Whicher Range in the Millbrook State Forest then flow in a northerly direction. The river crosses the Vasse Highway and then through Wonnerup Siding before discharging into the Vasse Estuary East of Busselton and finally the Indian Ocean. The river was named in 1834 by Frederick Ludlow. The name is Aboriginal in origin and is a greeting word used by the local peoples.

Forrest Highway

Forrest Highway (formerly the southern part of the Perth-Bunbury Highway project) is the name of the new dual carriageway highway in Western Australia, linking the new end of the Kwinana Freeway at Pinjarra Road Interchange near Ravenswood, with the Old Coast Road at Lake Clifton, bypassing the coastal city of Mandurah.

Great Eastern Highway

The Great Eastern Highway is a major road between the Western Australian cities of Perth and Kalgoorlie. It is a key route for vehicles accessing the eastern wheatbelt and the eastern goldfields. It also forms the westernmost 595 kilometres (370 mi) of the main road transportation link between Perth and the east coast of Australia.

Great Southern Highway

Great Southern Highway is a highway in the Southern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, starting from Great Eastern Highway at The Lakes, 50 km from Perth, and ending at Albany Highway near Cranbrook. It is the primary thoroughfare for this part of Western Australia and runs parallel with the Perth-Albany railway for its entire length. It is signed as State Route 120 from York to Cranbrook

Coalfields Highway

Coalfields Highway, formerly known as Coalfields Road, is a Western Australian highway linking Roelands (near Bunbury) on the South Western Highway with Arthur River on the Albany Highway. It is signed as State Route 107 and is about 125 km long. It is the main road to the key mining town of Collie, and passes through mining, forest and agricultural areas with stands of jarrah, wandoo and flood gum nearby.
